German materials handling giant Jungheinrich is preparing investors for gloomy news ahead of its second quarter results announcement next month. After a good start to the current financial year, Jungheinrich has recently registered a sharp fall in its customers’ investment activities, the company says in a statement. "This is due to the gloomier macroeconomic environment and the related current developments in the market for materials handling equipment." Jungheinrich notes that the global market shrank by 5% to the end of June, while in Europe, Jungheinrich’s core sector, the market has contracted by 7%. Suitable for both lead acid and lithium-ion batteries, the SLH 300 was awarded the prize in the Operating Technology category. Jungheinrich will use Riwal aerial work platforms for logistics centres, while Riwal will be able to offer Jungheinrich forklifts in other segments. Billed as the world’s first reach truck in which the battery has been permanently integrated into the truck design, Jungheinrich say it has consistently utilised the advantages of space-saving and powerful lithium-ion battery technology for this purpose. It claims the ETV 216i is significantly more compact than conventional reach trucks, providing greater agility and improved ergonomics, giving the operator more freedom of movement and better all-round visibility. Jungheinrich and Triathlon Holding have come together to found JT ENERGY Systems, a joint venture focused on the production and recycling of lithium-ion battery systems. The company will be based in Glauchau, Saxony. The founding is subject to approval of the project by the relevant competition authorities. Jungheinrich holds a 70 per cent share in the joint venture with Triathlon taking the remaining 30 per cent. The company is due to begin operations in August 2019. JT ENERGY Systems intends to create around 100 new jobs at the plant in the next few years.
