Moving loads efficiently in the beverage industry can be a precarious business, particularly for a company such as Marston’s. a brewer which handles kegs, casks, spirits and soft drinks at its 14 depots across the UK. For an operation dealing with diverse loads of different shapes and sizes, a one-size-fits-all approach to its materials handling needs is unlikely to deliver the levels of productivity required. As Marston’s expanded its business, it turned to trusted Yale partner, Briggs Equipment, for a tailored solution. Marston’s has a history that dates back to 1890 when it originally operated as Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries. Now the UK’s top independent pub retailing and brewing business, the company operates around 1,600 pubs with over 14,300 employees across the UK, and

Hyster launches spreader support device for safer container handling

Handling
In order to improve efficiency in the time-pressured shipping container handling sector, Hyster Europe has introduced a spreader support device option for its empty container handlers, designed to accelerate the inspection process of such containers. “To help them remain competitive in container inspection, maintenance and repair operations, the visual inspection of empty containers needs to be as efficient as possible,” explained Chris van de Werdt, product strategy manager, EMEA Big Trucks for Hyster Europe. The key element of the spreader support device is that it helps eliminate a stage in the inspection process, as empty containers will not need to be set down for inspection. Instead, the spreader holding the container is firmly locked in place at a height of about 1.80m. At

A leading UK paints and coatings manufacturer has selected Pyroban® to provide explosion protection on its latest lift trucks operating in Zone 2 hazardous areas. The manufacturer makes paints and specialist coatings at its Distribution Centre which operates round the clock, moving more than 1000 pallets and servicing more than 40 HGVs in 24 hours, making quick operation and reliability of equipment crucial. As some of the products handled are solvent based, the Distribution Centre has been classified as a Zone 2 hazardous area which therefore requires specially adapted, ATEX* 2014/34/EU compliant lift trucks. Standard lift trucks operating in these areas could otherwise be a source of ignition in the event of a solvent vapour release. “Heat from a truck’s engine, motors, brak

Tompsett Burgess Growers has been farming, processing and storing carrots, parsnips and onions for over 50 years at Whitehall Farm near Ely, Cambridgeshire. With around 1050 acres of prime fen land, the family business produces over 75,000 tonnes of carrots and 9000 tonnes of parsnips a year, and with a late crop of carrots grown in Tayside, Scotland, Tompsett Burgess Growers is able to supply washed, graded and processed carrots to UK and European markets 52 weeks a year. Hyster Europe is helping businesses in the paper supply chain to reduce paper reel damage with a combination of damage avoidance solutions.
